Expiation

A small Russian town one year after the end of the Second World War. The country is gripped by poverty, but Stalinism is still strong. Sixteen years old girl Sasha tells on her mother who stole doughnuts in the Army canteen to feed the family, and the woman is sent to prison. But a treachery of an officer whom Sasha loves to distraction makes Sasha to realize the difference between propagandized ideology and human values.

The film has been included in the contest program of the International Film Festival in Montréal (2012).
